WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BAPTISM?
Baptism is a public act that celebrates a person's entry into the Christian community of faith, and serves as an outward expression that symbolizes the spiritual transformation that has happened in a person's life. When you are immersed into the water and then lifted out, you reflect your union with Christ in both his death and resurrection. In other words, baptism demonstrates our new life in Jesus Christ.
"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." Romans 6:4 NIV
WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?
Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ should be baptized.
"Those who accepted his message were baptized..." Acts 2:41a NIV
"But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women." Acts 8:12 NIV
WHY SHOULD WE BE BAPTIZED?
As followers of Jesus, we should be baptized because He commands that we be baptized: "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt. 28:18-20 NIV
As followers of Jesus, we should be baptized because Jesus was baptized: "At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan." Mark 1:9 NIV]
As followers of Jesus, we should be baptized because it publicly declares our belonging to God: "So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." Galatians 3:26-27 NIV
